She made her career as both CEO and Accountant at Kitchens by Keweno, and eventually retired in 1990.
As a married couple Elvin and Fern loved to spend vacation cruises together, going to casinos, play cards with their friends, and just enjoying life. Even though it wouldn’t be the same without Elvin when he died in 2002, Fern continued the traditions of cruises, casinos, and playing cards all with her friends or family.
At home, she really enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune in the evenings. It was part of her nightly routine. She would not dare eat dinner, without first watching Wheel of Fortune. One year, she even got to be part of the live audience, when the TV show aired in Kansas City.
Fern was known for being the stable and dependable one in the family. Regardless of the situation, she was always there to help her family and friends, and was glad to help in their time of need.
In her later years, her son Keith and her daughter-in-law moved into her house to help her around the house and care for her. And later, her grandson Matthew also moved in to help. One thing for sure was Fern was fortunate to always have family close by, even to the very end. And rightfully so, since she was always there for us.
And even up till the very end, her mind was still very sharp. It must have been due to all those years being an accountant. It was a rare occasion that anything should get by her. She even at times had to remind her son Keith of various appointments in the week.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elvin and older son Kevin. She is survived by her younger son Keith, her grandchildren Michael, Matthew, and Judge, and by her great-grandchildren Felicity, Rayna and Zane.
Fern will be greatly missed by all of us. Till we see you again at the anticipated resurrection.
