Eugene Thomas Roe passed from this life on Wednesday September 29, 2021 at his home in Raytown, MO. He was 92 years, 6 months and 5 days old. Gene was born at home on March 24, 1929, in Kansas City, MO, to Clell Thomas Roe & Velma Jane (Knapp). He went to school in Kansas City where he finished the 6th grade and went to work to help support his family.
He began work at 16 years old for American Sash & Door Company and worked for 25 years before they moved operations to Minnesota. He decided to start his own business instead of moving away from family. He was a talented wood worker & carpenter and very successful.
“Boy,” as he was known by everyone, was dearly loved by everyone that knew him.
He was kind, caring, very practical, he was wise and always had a solution for problems. Boy always had time for you and loved to sit down, have a Coke and talk. Boy was a great dad to his girls and an excellent fatherly figure for his many grandchildren through the years.
Boy was a self-made man. He was successfully self-employed for most of his life. He loved life in the country where he raised his own beef, grew his own fruits and vegetables, and could stay busy making additions on his house or other carpentry projects as he saw fit. He loved to work with his hands. His priority was family and always made the time and resources to take care of his loved ones.
Gene was preceded in death by both of his parents Clell and Velma Roe, and siblings Ernie, Juanita, Ruth, Wilma, & Evelyn. He is survived by his daughters Barbara Fletcher & Carolyn Hess; siblings William & Donna. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 23 great, great grandchildren, and 2 great, great, great grandsons.
