She was born Erma Nadine Gier on December 1, 1922, to Ernest and Bonnie Gier (Jones) in a log cabin high atop a hill in Old Bagnall.
She married Layte Imler on January 23, 1941.
Over her lifetime she enjoyed a variety of careers including copywriting for the Eldon radio station, working at International Shoe Factory, co-managing the Eldon Ben Franklin 5c & 10c with her husband Layte, and Print Shop Manager for Missouri Farm Bureau.
Erma moved from Jefferson City, MO to the Kansas City, MO metro following her husband Layte’s retirement in 1979. She served as a caretaker, nurturer, and role model for her children and in-laws and her grandchildren Eric Haar, Adam Silverman and Courtney Silverman.
Erma was always ready to have a real-life adventure, play a game, or share stories real and imaginary. She was a master of anything she put her hand to, whether it be gardening, cooking, or sewing. She made her daughter Barbara's wedding dress, her grandchildren’s halloween costumes, countless amazing meals, an annual Christmas cookie and candy spread that had to be seen to be believed and she never met a Crossword puzzle she couldn’t best.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Bonnie Gier (Jones), her brothers Archie and Boyd Gier, her husband Layte Imler and her daughter Barbara Dianne Haar (Imler).
She is survived by her her daughter Pamela (Pam) Jean Silverman (Imler) and son-in-law James (Jim) Silverman, her grandson Adam Silverman and his wife Michala Silverman (England), her granddaughter Courtney Romsa (Silverman) and her husband Erik, her great-grandsons Max and Cael Silverman and Layton Romsa and great-granddaughters Joylyn and Hayley Romsa (all of Omaha, NE). She is also survived by son-in-law Frank Haar, grandson Eric Haar and his wife Nichole Suzanne Haar (Shelton), and great -grandchildren Theodore Imler Haar and Genevieve Margaret Haar (all of Lee’s Summit, MO).
She will be laid to rest December 28, 2022 at Mount Moriah Cemetery rejoining Layte, her husband of nearly 67 years.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Addington Place or Ascend Hospice, Lee’s Summit, MO.
