Elizabeth Rue Rice, 96, passed away on May 3, 2015. Visitation 6-8pm with rosary at 7:30pm on Thurs., May 7th at the McGilley & Sheil Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30am with visitation at 9:30am on Fri. at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 Lee’s Summit Rd., Indep. Burial following in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Elizabeth was born in Westphalia, KS on July 24, 1918; the oldest of 8 children to Henry & Katherine Reiling. She was a lifetime resident of the Eastside and greatly involved in her community. Elizabeth was active in St. Michael’s Church & school and belonged to their Altar Society; earning herself the Bishop’s Award. Currently she was an active member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. She was an active volunteer at Cardinal Glennon High School & De La Salle as well as a Girl Scout Leader. Elizabeth was also a member of the East 23rd St. PAC, a board member of Nowlin Hall, board member & volunteer for the Minute Circle & a member of the Eastside Church Women’s Clinic. She was an intricate member of the Blue Valley Neighborhood Assoc.; receiving a Neighborhood Hero Award & the Shepard Center of Northeast Recognition Award. Elizabeth was a lifetime member of the T.O.P.S. Club and ultimately ascended to the K.O.P.S Club. In her later years she enjoyed traveling both in the US and internationally. Elizabeth was an Election Judge and an avid voter. She was a dedicated Democrat & a devout Catholic.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 4 sisters and her husband of 62 years, James L. Rice. She is survived by her children, Jim (Riki), Patricia Caskanett (Tom), Sandy Cooley, Mary Jane Sirna (Joe) & John (Wendy); 12 grandchildren & 23 great grandchildren.
