Elizabeth Chloe Finley, 89, went peacefully home on the wings of angels to be with her "Heavenly Father" on April 18, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be 10:30 am -12 pm on Sat., April 27 at the McGilley & Sheil Chapel with service beginning at 12 pm. Burial following in Mt. Washington Cemetery.
Elizabeth was born to James & Rachel Rouse on March 3, 1924 in Rocheport, MO. Her family lived in New Franklin and moved to Columbia, MO where she began her sophomore year in high school. She graduated from Hickman High in 1942. On Nov. 20, 1942 she married the love of her life, Lloyd J. Finley, in Camdenton, MO and they were inseparable for nearly 69 years. Elizabeth worked as a nurse's aide while her husband served in the Army during World War II. She was a homemaker and the mother of 5 girls. She went to work later in life at Emery Bird Thayer in A/P and then First National Bank in A/P until retiring in 1980. She was a woman of great faith and was instrumental in the salvation of many, including her own children. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, served on committees and a member of WMU for 40 years. She was a current member of First Baptist Church of Lee's Summit and was loved and respected by family and friends. She held true to her values and beliefs and was very knowledgeable in every aspect of life. She knew her Bible and read it daily, liked talking politics and enjoyed watching & talking sports with those that shared the same passion. She was quite the storyteller and enjoyed sharing her family experiences & adventures. The highlights of her life were her grand, great and great-great grandchildren; they always made her heart smile. She will be missed so much, but we are celebrating with her the victory of her resurrection in Christ. We will never say goodbye...only "Until we meet again".
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband. She is survived by her brother, James Rouse (Anna); her sisters, Jamie Lee Perkins & Shirley Palmer; her daughters, Linda Giese (Don), Beverly Zuber (Walt), Nancy Eaton (Mike), Deborah Miranda (Moses) & Susan Scott (Phil); 11 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren & 2 great-great grandchildren. We want to express our gratitude to Village Hospice (JKV) for the care, love & concern they gave Elizabeth and her family. They truly became a special part of our family during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Elizabeth’s memory to Village Hospice, 400 NW Murray Rd, Lee's Summit, MO 64081. Condolences to www.mcgilleysheil.com.
