Elizabeth Ellen Downs

September 20, 1943 – February 15, 2024

Elizabeth E. Downs, 80, of Weatherby Lake, MO, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024. She was a graduate of Ruskin High School. While working at KMBZ/KMBR radio station, her granddaughter was born and she chose to leave the station to become a full-time grandmother, starting an in-home daycare which lasted for the next 24 years. She and her husband were members and Kid’s Connections teachers at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. They were devoted Christians and loved to share the joy of Jesus Christ.

Elizabeth was born September 20, 1943, in Kansas City, MO to Stewart and Elsie (Gould) Jacoby.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Paul Jacoby, and cherished husband of 45 years Gary L. Downs. She is survived by daughters Diane Downs and Sherrie Deaver, granddaughter Amanda Wood, great-granddaughter Madyline Elizabeth Wood, great-grandson Grayson Spencer Wood, sisters Virginia (Frank) Hawk, Carolyn Jacoby, Karen (Sam) Harbord, Stephanie (Russ) Petty, sister-in-law Glenna (John) Walch, and many nieces/nephews, great-great nieces/nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the loving staff of Ascend Hospice.

Visitation will be 1-2:00pm Monday, February 19, 2024, followed by a funeral service at 2-3:00pm, graveside service 3-3:30pm. D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Floral Hills.
