Eleanor Jean Neighbors, 82, passed away August 30, 2013 peacefully at her home in Leawood, KS, surrounded by her family after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was a loving wife, mother, devoted grandmother and great grandmother.
Eleanor was born November 3, 1930 to Clarence and Alice Strub of Brunswick, MO. Predeceasing her in death were her parents and one sister, Mildred White. Surviving family members include her sisters Marian Minks and Mary Evelyn “Sis” DeWeese and one brother, Clarence “Bud” Strub Jr.
Eleanor married the love of her life, James, on June 10, 1950. To this union were born five children, daughters, Barbara and her husband Joseph Weatherford, Beverly and her husband Donald Gieszelmann, sons, Michael and wife Melissa Neighbors, Mark and wife Shelly Neighbors and David Neighbors; grandchildren Angie, Joey, Katie, Kristi, Kai, Jimmy, Justin, Taner and Tyler; 8 great grandchildren.
Eleanor devoted her life to God and her family. She loved reading, shopping and traveling the world. She was an extremely generous person. Much time and thought went into choosing the perfect gift for each family member to open on Christmas Eve. She created wonderful Christmas memories that are cherished by her children and grandchildren. In addition to raising five children, Eleanor worked alongside her husband, Jim in their business.
Visitation will be held at the Church of the Nativity, 3800 W. 119th St. Leawood, KS on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 10:00-11:00am. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am followed by the burial in Resurrection Cemetery. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the wonderful, dedicated and loving in-home caregivers, Catholic Community Hospice, Harden Hospice, and Sisters Servants of Mary.
