Edward Joseph Tomczuk, 84, Kansas City North, passed away August 14, 2010 at Liberty Hospital. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 18th at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the McGilley Antioch Chapel where a rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to St. Gabriel Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Ed was born November 19, 1925 in Manhattan, NY. He was an Army-Air Corp veteran of World War II, a graduate of the University of Denver and moved to Kansas City in 1959. Ed was a 50 year member of the Knights of Columbus and held membership in Tri-County Council #3414. He was past president of the Sherwood Home Association, a position he held for 25 years. Ed had also been a Boy Scout leader of Troop #112. He retired from Continental Disc following 20 years of service. Ed was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church. Family and tradition were important to Ed. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Beatrice Tomczuk; wife Mary Catherine Tomczuk; and granddaughter, Katherine Broderick.
Survivors include his children, Mary Catherine “Mimi” (Martin) Broderick, St. Louis, MO; Joseph Tomczuk of the home; Anne (James) Fields, Lenexa, KS; Paul Tomczuk, St. Louis, MO; James (Kelly) Tomczuk, Kansas City, MO; 1 sister, Helen Halliday, Madison, NJ; and 6 grandchildren, Patrick (Ashley) Fields, Megan Broderick, Robert (Joanne) Fields, and Alyssa, Adam and Abigail Tomczuk; and his dearest friend and companion, Teresa Terry. The family wishes to thank Dr. John Amick and the nurses and staff at Liberty Hospital for their compassionate care of Ed.
