Edna Potter was a true angel on earth. A proud 1947 graduate of Alma High School, she went on to study nursing at the College of Saint Teresa in Kansas City, Missouri. A woman whose love and kindness knew no bounds, she dedicated her life to caring for others, as a registered nurse and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her compassionate spirit shone through in every aspect of her life, touching the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Edna’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family. Whether she was gardening, cooking a warm meal, listening to music, knitting, or playing games, she made every moment special with her love and laughter. She had an extraordinary way of making those around her feel safe, cherished, and deeply loved. She was always the first to check in when someone was ill, and the first to offer a helping hand—never expecting anything in return.
A woman of unwavering faith, Edna was a devoted baptist and shared her love of God by teaching Sunday school to children. She lived out her faith every day, not just in words but through her endless acts of kindness and selflessness. She was a guiding light, a source of comfort, and a reminder of what true love and devotion look like. She often reminded her grandchildren that no matter where life took them, they should always go to church. In fact, Edna told her own children: never send your kids to church - always TAKE them to church. Her faith was not a tradition; to Edna, faith was a source of strength, guidance, and comfort. She believed that staying connected to God would help her loved ones navigate life's challenges, and keep her love and values alive in their hearts.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Potter, and grandchild, Sandy Beat; she is survived by her children Kelly Potter, Jerry Potter (Marcia), and Kathy Beaty, and grandchildren Jason Potter (Frank), Shane Beaty, Benjamin Potter, Melissa Ebert (Luke), Jack Potter (Sara), Sarah Stroud (Tyler), and great-grandchildren who will carry on her memory. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in every life she touched, and her legacy of love and generosity will continue for generations to come.
