Dorothy Nesbitt Pendleton, 96, peacefully passed away Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Kingswood Manor. Dorothy was a sweet, quiet lady with a subtle sense of humor and gentle laugh. She loved to garden, read and be with her family.
Dorothy Gillespie Nesbitt was born on March 18, 1917 in Boise, Idaho to Harold H. Nesbitt and Johanna Edwards Nesbitt. She grew up in Bel Aire, Maryland with her two sisters, Marjorie and Geraldine. Dorothy and Herbert Willis Pendleton married in Baltimore, Maryland in 1937 and raised their three sons in Anchorage, Kentucky. Dorothy and Herb relocated to Leawood, Kansas in 1980 upon Herb’s retirement and became active members of Saint Michael’s Episcopal Church.
Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband of 67 years, two sisters and eldest son, Michael Nesbitt Pendleton. She is survived by her son Steven Willis Pendleton and wife Marilyn; son Bruce Edwards Pendleton and wife Elizabeth; grandchildren Scott, Stephanie, Reed, Bruce, Elizabeth, Bruce, John and Will, and six great-grandchildren. The family plans a private service in celebration of Dorothy’s life.
Dorothy had been a resident of Kingswood Manor in Kansas City, Missouri for the past 14 years. Her family extends their heartfelt thanks to Kingswood and Grace Hospice for the gentle and attentive care they provided to Dorothy.
