Mrs. Dorothy Ernestine Jones, age 104, of Liberty Missouri, passed away Tuesday February 8, 2022. She was born January 7, 1918 in Arkansas City, Kansas, oldest child of Spencer and Virgie Koger. Dorothy was proceeded in death by her husband of 55 years, Thomas F. Jones Sr.; son Thomas F. Jones Jr.; great grandson Patrick T. Jones; sisters Doris Honack and Helen Hugill; brother Spencer Jack Koger.
Dorothy is survived by two grandsons, Thomas F. Jones III (Patricia A.) of Liberty, MO. and Rodney R. Jones (Melissa K.) of Grain Valley, MO; two great grandsons Thomas F. Jones IV of Denver CO, and Dylan C. Jones of Liberty, MO, and one great granddaughter Candace R. Jones of Blue Springs, MO. Nephew, Gene Brokaw (Nancy) of Escondido CA., and three nieces, Sharon Lamb of Toledo OH, Paula Hugill of Toledo OH, Tonya Hurlburt (George) of Branson MO.
Dorothy Koger graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1936. She married Thomas F. Jones on June 6, 1937 in Winfield Kansas. Dorothy and Thomas dated for two weeks, were married, and were together for life. They loved to dance to big band music. They lived in Independence, Lake Lotawana, and Blue Springs MO. Dorothy worked at F. W. Woolworth Dime Store, where she served President Harry S. Truman as a soda fountain attendant at the age of 29. Dorothy was a dental assistant for many years, then started her own dog grooming business and enjoyed gardening, especially growing roses. Dorothy became and expert quilter later in life. She loved spending time with family and friends.
Dorothy loved the Kansas City Royals, Frank Sinatra, Oreos and Dr. Pepper. Dorothy’s name changed to “Nana” when her great grandchildren were born. She was an active great grandmother. Attending all family events and always being the life of the party. Nana loved unconditionally. She always welcomed people into her home, family, and life.
Dorothy was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. She had the ability to make everyone feel welcome and loved. We will miss her every day.
