Dorothy Corinne (Hall) Green

Born June 3, 1911, in Amoret, Missouri, she was the second of four children. At the time she was born there were only forty-six states, and the Titanic was still under construction. Dorothy's father owned the General store and Dorothy spent her early years helping her dad in the store. Her dad told her when she could put a pencil behind her ear, she would get more responsibilities. She graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science in Education. In 1938, Dorothy married Robert Harold Green who resided in Springfield, Missouri. She spent 76 years of her life in Springfield where she raised her son Bob. She was a homemaker and school teacher. Dorothy moved in 2014 to Leawood, Kansas at the age of 103 to be closer to her family.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her father Carlton Fisk Hall, her mother Amanda Melvina (Hicks) Hall, sister Thelma Hall, brother Eugene Hall and infant sister. Dorothy is survived by her son Robert H. Green (Betsy) of Leawood, Kansas, her granddaughter Whitney E. Ball (Ryan), great-granddaughter Perry Ball, and great-grandson Remington Ball all of Dallas, Texas. Aunt Dorothy also leaves her loving nephews and nieces.

Growing up in a small town in Missouri, her first teaching job was in a one room school heated by a wood stove. She earned $65 dollars a month and she had seven students in six different grades. In the early 1930's, on summer breaks, she and her older sister drove to places such as New York City to take courses at local universities. Her love for travel took her to Egypt in her 70's where she rode a camel at the Pyramids. No one loved driving more than Dorothy! She decided to give up her car and driver's license at 99 years old because she wanted to end her driving career with a good record. She never could persuade her doctor to issue her a handicap designation for her car. He jokingly told her that walking was good for her. During her retirement she had weekly bridge games for high stakes, pennies and nickels. Dorothy spent Saturday evenings eating at Jimm's steakhouse in Springfield, Missouri which likely included a gin and tonic.

Dorothy lived her life fully and displayed her unconditional love for her family, friends, church community and deep faith. Her family would like to thank the caregivers at Sunrise of Leawood and Ascend Health Hospice Overland Park for their wonderful care of Dorothy over her last few years.

Memorial contributions may be made to First & Calvary Presbyterian Church, Springfield, Missouri. A Memorial Visitation will be held Monday, March 11, 2024, 9:30am-10:30am followed by the Memorial Service 10:30am -11:30am Mt.
