Doris Lou Braun

Doris Lou Braun passed from this world on December 10, 2022 at Foxwood Springs in Raymore, MO. She was 93 years old. Doris was a lifetime resident of Kansas City, MO and lived with her spouse in the same house for over 57 years in south Kansas City. She passed due to natural causes from her advanced age.

Doris was born in Blum, TX to Otis and Mary Holt in September of 1929. Not long after her birth, the family moved to Oklahoma where her father worked as a welder in the oil industry. She graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1947.

She moved to Kansas City in 1960 and worked for the Telephone Company. She met her future spouse John Braun and was married in September of 1961. Their union produced a son, John Braun Jr. in November of 1962. They lived in south KC and moved into the family home in 1965 where they currently reside.

While in her 40s, Doris chose to return to school and became a student at the University of Missouri Kansas City, Conservatory of Music. While there she joined the Mu Phi Epsilon Music Sorority and was an active member. She earned a degree in Music Education and taught in both the Grandview and Hickman Mills School Districts. While doing this she also taught many piano and vocal students in her home, as well as was an active member of the church singing and directing choirs for many years.

Doris was preceded in death by her mother and father, Mary and Otis Holt, and her sister, Virginia Gibson. She is survived by her husband, John Braun Sr. and son, John Braun Jr., daughter-in-law Teresa Braun, sister, Amelia Kimson. Doris has two grandchildren, John T. Braun and Jessica Cochran, and great grandson, Trent Shull, along with nieces, nephews, and many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on December 21, 2022 at 1:00PM at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO 64145. Speaker Dr. John Doane will present at 2:00PM. Flowers are accepted or donations to the Mu Phi Epsilon Music Sorority in her name.
