Doris Hockensmith Barlow left this earth on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 in Overland Park, Kansas at the age of 82. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri on December 3, 1929. Waiting to greet her are her parents Edith and Fred Hockensmith, her beloved husband Gaylord, as well as her sister Mary Jane Pike, and her much loved nephew Jeffrey David Pike. Before graduation from Central High School in 1947, Doris joined the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1979 after 30 years of service. After retirement she and Gaylord moved to South Padre Island, Texas for 20 years and returned to Overland Park in 1997. She loved to travel and did so extensively. She also loved her “Red Hat Society” Group. She attended St. Marks Methodist Church where she was married. Survivors include her niece Susan Castillo, Overland Park, Kansas; nephew William Harold Pike, Jr. and wife Nancy, Dallas, Texas; great nephew Christopher David Pike, Dallas Texas; great niece Carolyn Pike, Louisville, Kentucky; stepdaughter Sharon Buchanan, Vilonia, Arkansas; stepson Bill Barlow and wife Renee, Little Rock, Arkansas; great-niece Lisa Steiner; three great-great-nephews Jake, Nick and Luke Steiner; five stepgrandsons Steve, Mike, Will, Zack and Adam; and one stepgranddaughter Katlyn. She will be missed by her family and many friends, especially Helen. Visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00 p.m. followed by funeral services at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road. Interment in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
