Donna was born to Elmer and Catherine Roberts Hackett on April 6, 1942 in Worcester, Massachusetts. She lived in several states during her childhood as her father traveled for Western Auto. Eventually settling in Leawood, Kansas, Donna graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School in 1960. She began a long and successful career with AT&T in Kansas City, Missouri. She traveled extensively with her parents and friends throughout the years.
With the death of her parents, she moved to the Fairway Woods neighborhood in Overland Park in 1998. Here she participated in many social and volunteer activities, including a Bunco and a Mahjong club. She served for many years as a mainstay volunteer with the Book Department of the Johnson County Christmas Bureau. In recent years she was an active supporter of One Small Step, a group serving homeless children in Kansas City, Kansas. Four years ago, Donna joined the living community at Tall Grass Creek.
Donna had three passions throughout her life: needlepoint arts, tailgating at the Chiefs' games, and her dogs. Despite some serious health challenges, she enjoyed her life and her friends. She leaves behind her cousins, Lois MacKenzie in Massachusetts and Denise and Fred Roberts in Maine, and her friends from each stage of her life here in Kansas City.
A graveside service will be held at Mount Moriah Cemetery at 10507 Holmes Road in Kansas City, Missouri on Thursday, July 6th at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Donna requested donations to the charity of your own choice.
