Donald Lee Thomsen 81, of Kansas City Missouri passed away Tuesday Sept 6th, at home with his family. Visitation will be held1pm-2pm Thursday Sept 15th. Funeral service will follow at 2pm. Both will take place at Floral Hills Funeral Home and Cemetery. 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd. Kansas City Mo 64133.
Don was born in White Church, Kansas to the late Myrtle and Christian Thomsen. He was raised in Kansas City MO and educated in the Kansas City Public school system. Don was a star athlete at East High School had numerous metals for track and received a scholarship to University of Central MO, (UCM)
In 1962 Donald went on to join the United States Army, while stationed overseas in Germany gave up his bachelor life for his son and beautiful wife Gisela. Don was a diesel mechanic for Cummins Mid-America for many years and retired in 2000. He was a member of Masonic Temple 299 and belonged to the Ararat Shriners.
Don was a good father; there was nothing he wouldn’t do for his children as he loved them all. Don loved socializing with his family and friends. Many knew him for his generous ways and caring heart. If you knew him and had him for a friend, he would give you the shirt off his back. Don was a good friend you could always count on him. Don loved his 6 sisters and brother dearly; he spoke of them often. He loved his grandkids and teased them every chance he had. Don was a simple man and loved to watch sports, especially the Chiefs and always with his late wife Gisela right by his side.
Don was very stubborn and never complained he left peacefully and quietly while surrounded by family.
Don is survived by his son Donald Lee Thomsen Jr., his daughters Denice Stewart and Kristine (Greg) Haines. Grandchildren Donald Lee Thomsen III, Kara (Chris) Jones, Shae Stewart, and Chloe Haines.
Great Grandchildren Alyssa Thomsen and Kai Alexander Jones. As well as extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife Gisela Thomsen his parents Myrtle and Christian Thomsen and his sisters Shirley Hodge and Pat Keithley.
