Dominick F. Najolia, 99, Kansas City North, passed away April 30, 2012 at Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The Mass of Christian Burial is 9:00 AM Saturday, May 5th at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 PM Friday at the McGilley Antioch Chapel where a rosary will be prayed at 7 PM. In lieu of flowers please contribute to St. Gabriel Faith Funds Our Future Fund.
Nick was born August 18, 1912 to Anthony and Frances Najolia in Jefferson Parish, LA. Leaving home at 16 he came to Kansas City to be with a brother. He attended Finley Engineering College and was an Army veteran of World War II. Nick was the Standing Engineer at St. Luke’s Hospital for many years. He owned his own business, North Hills Heating and Cooling. He serviced all North Kansas City Schools for many years. Since the age of 80, he volunteered at the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Churches north of the river, and Habitat for Humanity. For the last 12 years he volunteered at Synergy Services. Nick was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 101 for 75 years. For more than 60 years he held membership in the American Legion, Pipefitters Local 533, Refrigeration Service Engineers Society and the Knights of Columbus Tri-County Council #3414. Nick was a charter member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lena who he married in 1941, second wife, Ruth who he married in 1948 and daughter, Mary Ann Schmidt.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Jerry; son, Dom and wife, Candace, Chicago, IL; brother Sal Najolia, Ventura, CA; two granddaughters, Debra French and Dorie Najolia; step-children, Kathy and Jon Gaston, Jim and Ellen Pierson and their son, Tom, and Nancy and Phil Hanson and their children, Mark, John and Katie.
