Dennis was born August 27, 1942 to Earl George and Dora (Brown) Snapp in St. Joseph, MO. He grew up in King City with his twin-sister Penny Snapp Warren. Dennis was a 1960 graduate of King City High School. In high school he met Connie Antle. They were married on November 19, 1961 and spent 58 years together until Connie's death in August of 2020. Dennis moved to the Northeast part of Kansas City where he worked for Broadway Supply. He also worked security for Sutherland Lumber while he attended Molar Barber College. Dennis was a 32nd Degree Mason.
Dennis started cutting hair in July 1962 at The Ben Bolt Barber Shop in North Kansas City. He and his business partner, Jim Roe, purchased the shop in 1978. He was employed as a barber until December 2019 when poor health forced retirement. He was a legend in North Kansas City and several times was awarded the title "Barber of the Year" and an Ambassador for the City of North Kansas City. During his barber career he cut the hair of some four generations of families. Many of his customers considered Dennis to be a part of their family. A long-time customer, Bob Boydston, remembers that "Dennis held court every day at the barber shop where he counseled, consoled, told really bad jokes, and made everyone who came in feel better than they did before they walked in. Truly a nicer human being never lived."
Dennis loved many things. He was an accomplished archer and won the Missouri State Championship in Archery. Dennis and Connie spent a lot of time with their close friends, Jim and Judy Roe, racing at the dragstrip. Throughout their lives, Dennis and Connie opened their home and hearts and fostered over 40 children in Clay County. They enjoyed traveling to destinations like Las Vegas, NV, the Virgin Islands, taking cruises, and flying to the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Cancun, Cozumel, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. One of their favorite places to visit was Scottsdale, AZ.
The thing Dennis cherished most in his life, beside his wife Connie, was his beautiful daughter, Stacey. They enjoyed many life adventures together including introducing Stacey to motorcycling and the love of guns. There were many daddy-daughter dates that will be fondly remembered.
In addition to his wife Connie who passed away in August of 2020, Dennis also dearly missed his son-in-law, Phil, who preceded him in death in 2003; and his granddog, Leo.
Survivors include his daughter, Stacey Snapp-Phillips; his twin sister, Penny Warren; nieces, Lori Burge and Ellie Warren; and many great nephews.
Dennis was also preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Dora Snapp; and his step-mother, Gerry Snapp.
The family suggests contributions in Dennis's memory be made to KC Pet Project at https://kcpetproject.org/donate/
