Denise came into this world on April 26, 1953, the first of ten children born to Charles V. and Claire Y. Prather. Her growing up years were spent surrounded by her many siblings, cousins, and extended family on Prather Road in Kansas City’s Northland. She was a graduate of St. Pius X High School.
The joy of Denise’s life was raising three sons and enjoying their many activities. She served as a Den Mother to Boy Scout Troop 248, as a dedicated teacher’s aide at East Platte Elementary School, as president of the PTA for one year and chair of many committees over the years.
Anyone who was blessed to know Denise can affirm that her faith was a guiding force throughout her life. She was an active member of several Baptist congregations over the years and enjoyed her time as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. Denise also treasured family time, playing cards, traveling, genealogy, and crocheting.
Left to cherish Denise’s memory are her beloved husband, Pete Munoz; her sons Gregory Turley, Bradley Turley (Jennie), and Kevin Turley; step-children Pete Munoz (Angie), William Munoz (Lisa), and Michelle Robinson (Joe); grandchildren Cassidy, Steven, Stefani, Ty, Delanie, Elise, and Lyndsey; as well as Pete’s 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Denise was a beloved sister to Duane (Xue Ru) Prather, Diane (Chris) Pate, Darlene (Curtiss) Armes, Dennis (Joyce) Prather, Darrell (Stephanie) Prather, Darren Prather, Dale (Tammy) Prather, Dean (Rozanne) Prather, and Dawn (the late Eric) Cierpiot.
Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, April 25th at First Baptist Church of Platte City, 17385 MO Hwy 371, Platte City, MO 64079. Denise’s funeral service (no graveside service) is at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 26th , also at the church.
It was Denise’s wish to encourage guests to celebrate her heavenly journey by wearing bright colors to her services.
