Born Della Carol Combs, to Lloyd and Louise Combs at home in Perry Township, Brown County, Ohio on January 6, 1948. Della was one of the youngest of 7 boys & 4 girls. Her father was a member of the U.S. Army who passed when Della was 5 years old. Moving around was pretty normal for the family including Ohio, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Texas & Washington. Della graduated from Moclips Washington High School in '67, after which she attended college for liberal arts.
In the Spring of '79 she moved back to San Antonio where she met John Lee Davis. A year later, the two were married on May 7th, 1980, in the Mesa Temple, of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Della & John had 3 girls; Jacqueline, Deborah & Elizabeth, between the summer of 1981 and the spring of 1985, then adopted Christopher Robin in 1988.
Della enjoyed 18 years as an accountant and bookkeeper for government and private industry.
She would say her proudest career achievement was retirement! However, her proudest achievements in life were of motherhood, and being a wife. Some of her most cherished moments were watching her family grow. The cherry on top was her relationship with her grandchildren, she worked hard to know what was going on in their lives, and it was important to her that they knew she loved them.
Some of Della's favorite hobbies she enjoyed were sports, sewing, and genealogy. As a teenager and young adult, she found great joy in playing softball. Later she became a fan of football and enjoyed seeing her Kansas City Chiefs thrive and go to multiple Super Bowls at the end of her life. In her later years, she became an expert as a Genealogist / Family History Consultant for 40+ years. She completed extensive work in her family line and had the privilege of helping others find their ancestors.
Della is survived by her husband, John L. Davis of Lee's Summit; her children, Jacqueline Davis Moreno, Deborah Davis, Elizabeth Chamberlain, and Christopher Robin Davis; seven grandchildren: Erin, Emma and Carter Chamberlain, Collin Gage Murrell, Blake, Clara, and Harlen Davis; and her Older Brother Kenneth Combs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd Franklin and Louise Lucille (Moses) Combs. Six brothers & three sisters, Betty June (Eakin), George Journey, Nora Jean (Whitcotton), Lloyd Eldon, Henry Walter, Richard Crale, Louise Ann (Cable), Glenn Gerald and Robert Lowell Combs.
