David's life journey began on March 15, 1950, in Saigon, Vietnam, a place that would shape the course of his life. On September 20, 2023, he peacefully departed this world in the comfort of his home in Overland Park, Kansas, surrounded by his family and the love of his life, Tuyet. David's legacy is one of love, enduring warmth, and a treasure trove of memories that he leaves behind for his four children and twelve grandchildren.
David's life was a testament to resilience, compassion, and an unyielding pursuit of a brighter future. As a young man, he bravely served in the South Vietnamese Army, defending his homeland against the encroaching communist forces from the north. In pursuit of freedom and a better life, he embarked on a perilous journey, leading his family to America by escaping Vietnam under the cover of night aboard a small boat.
With the support of church sponsors in Massachusetts, David toiled tirelessly, taking on any work, no matter how humble, to provide for his family. Eventually, he found his home in the heart of the Midwest, where he made the Kansas City Chiefs his favorite team and worked for many years at UMB Bank until his well-earned retirement from GM's affiliated parts plant.
David was more than just a dedicated worker; he was a dedicated family man. He stood as a sturdy pillar of support for his loved ones, a source of unwavering inspiration for all fortunate enough to know him. His physical presence may be absent, but his spirit will forever reside in the hearts of those he touched. His favorite quote, “don’t worry, be happy,” personified his carefree outlook on life.
In this time of sorrow, we extend our deepest gratitude to Catholic Community Hospice for their compassionate care and support during David's last year and a half. Your dedication brought solace and comfort to our beloved David, and for that, we are eternally grateful.
As we gather to celebrate David's life, let us remember the strength of his character, the depth of his love, and the enduring impact he had on all our lives. May his memory continue to inspire us to strive for the values he held dear – resilience, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to family. You will forever be in our hearts.
