Friday, December 7, 2018, at the age of 57 years and two months. He was
the youngest of five sons born to E. Benton and Dolores M. Shiveley on
October 7, 1961, at Monett, MO. His younger years were spent on a farm
in Newton County, MO, later moving with his family to Cassville, MO, then
to Crane, MO.
David graduated with the class of 1979 from Crane High School and from
Southwest Missouri State University, Springfield, MO in 1984. After
graduation he moved to Kansas City, MO where he held several positions
at the Circuit Court of Jackson County starting as Purchasing Agent
advancing to Supervisor of Support Services until 1994, when he joined
Kansas City’s Lockton Companies telecommunication and IT team. About
ten years ago he was promoted to Lockton’s Communications Vice
President position, which he held at the time of his death. He was an
active member of the Second Presbyterian Church at Brookside in Kansas
City. David was an avid collector of lion memorabilia and an ardent animal
lover which included his in-house feline companions, he lovingly referred
to as “the boys.”
He is preceded in death by his father, E. Benton Shiveley; paternal
grandparents, E.P. and LaVerne (Kennedy) Shiveley and maternal
grandparents, Will J. And Tillie (Haak) Bokker. Survivors include his
mother Dolores Shiveley, Crane, MO; four brothers and their wives, Bill and
Dianne Shiveley, Cassville, MO; Terry and Brenda Shiveley, Aurora, MO;
Roger and Linda Shiveley, Battlefield, MO and Chuck and Karla Shiveley,
Marionville, MO; ten nephews and nieces; one uncle, Hugh Shiveley, Blue
Springs, MO; special friends, Millie Crossland, California, MO and Mark
Hash, Kansas City, MO and childhood friend, the Rev. Julia Wiley,
Armadale, Scotland and former pastor/friends the Rev. Dr. Martin and Jane
Stokes, Clover, South Carolina, plus a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, December 14 at Second
Presbyterian Church, 55th St. and Brookside, Kansas City, MO. A private
family memorial service will be held at Crane Presbyterian Church, Crane,
MO at a later date. The family suggested that in David’s memory,
Memorial Contributions can be made to Second Presbyterian Church,
Kansas City, the American Diabetes Association.
