Dave was born to Vernon and Dorothy (Cline) Christie on August 25, 1941 in Larned, Kansas. The family moved to Long Beach, California where he was raised. He graduated from Wilson High School Class of 1959. Dave attended Long Beach City College where he studied music performance and education. He played football for the college and was part of the championship team that won the Junior Rose Bowl in 1960. Dave met his future wife Jackie there, and they were married on April 12, 1962. He continued his education at the University of Southern California, and later transferred to the University of Missouri, Kansas City where he graduated with degrees in music performance and education.
Dave played trombone for the Kansas City Philharmonic Orchestra for many years. He was also in the orchestra at Starlight Theater and played many jazz events throughout the city.
In addition to his musical career, he was a car enthusiast and spent his retirement years restoring the 1952 MG that he and his two best friends drove to many of their musical events. He was also an avid golfer and pulled a cart walking Swope Memorial Golf Course almost every day. Dave and Jackie enjoyed traveling back to California and made several trips to the United Kingdom.
Above all, Dave was a committed family man. He spent countless hours attending events supporting his children and grandchildren.
Dave is survived by his wife Jacqueline, his children Deborah Hall (Keith), Dianna Stenzel and Laura Matthew, his nine grandchildren, Allyson, Lindsie, Michael, Carlie, Luke, Madison, Christa, Rachel, and Zachary and his two great-grandchildren Elaina and Kenneth David.
A memorial will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 22, 2021 at St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church, 6630 Nall Avnue, Mission, KS, followed by a brief reception.
