He was born May 27, 1924, to Clarence and Daisy Irene Trent of Kamrar, Iowa, Hamilton County. Bud graduated from Clearfield High School in Clearfield, Iowa. Bud married Lillian Adkinson on January 7, 1943. Bud was drafted into the Army in 1943 and served in Europe for the duration of the WWII War. In 1950 they moved to Kansas City, Missouri on Myrtle Street. Bud built a home on Jackson Avenue from 1952 to 1953. In 1956 Bud and Lillian adopted an infant son, Clarence Darwin Day and four Hackett siblings; George, Brenda, Eugene and Anita.
Bud worked for Barnes Roofing Company for nineteen years, then Hankins Roofing for ten years. In 1964, Bud fell off a roof, breaking his back, causing an end to his roofing career.
Bud's wife Lillian passed away in 1996 at the south Kansas City home.
Bud married again to Verna Mae Long of Canyon City, Colorado on February 14, 1999. Verna passed away in 2007.
Bud married again to Martha Lauchlan on January 31, 2011. Martha passed away in 2018 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence V. Day and Daisy I. Day; first-wife Lillian, second-wife Verna Mae, third-wife Martha; his siblings, Vernon Leslie Day of Braddyville, Iowa, Leland Lavern Day of Holden, Missouri, Donald H. Day of Kansas City, Missouri, Lila Irene Huntsman of Mount Ayr, Iowa and Thelma Louise Huber of Lenox, Iowa; and his children, Clarence Darwin Day of Florida and George Day of California.
He is survived by his daughter, Brenda Morton of Maxwell, California; son, Eugene Day of Williams, California; daughter, Anita Keech of California; and nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

A visitation for Bud will be held Friday, September 29, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131. A Celebration of Life funeral service will follow from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM. A graveside service will conclude services at Moriah Cemetery South.
