Darline D. Lyons, 94, Shawnee, Kansas, formerly of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away March 23, 2013. The family will gather with friends for a time of sharing memories from 3:00-4:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 26 at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri.
Darline was born October 6, 1918 in Dickinson County, Kansas, daughter of Lee Roy and Minnie (Major) Thompson. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Francis Lyons, and her daughter, Karen Caswell. She is survived by her son, Jim Lyons, of Clearwater, Kansas, and grandchildren. Her aunt, Bessie Williams, and her extended family was very fond of her and included “Aunt Dee” in their family over the years. Darline was a do-it-yourself woman. She sewed, painted, repaired or built what she needed. She was frugal, practical and loved a good game of dominoes, spades, blackjack and bingo!
Darline worked as a waitress at a café in Kansas City, Missouri for many years and enjoyed her relationship with her longtime customers. She lived her last five-plus years at Shawnee Heartland Assisted Living where she established close and fun relationships with staff and residents who became good friends. There was always laughter at her table in the dining room. Her family and friends will miss her cheery disposition and her fun and mischievous personality.
