Daniel Davila

Daniel Davila, 74, of Belton, Missouri, passed away July 10, 2011. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 16, at the Coronation of Our Lady Catholic Church, 13000 Bennington, Grandview, Missouri. Interment in Mt. Moriah Cemetery South, 10507 Holmes Road. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., with Rosary being prayed at 6:00 p.m., Friday, July 15, at the church. Mr. Davila was born December 22, 1936 in San Antonio, Texas, son of Octavio and Maria (Sapopa) Davila. He was a Vietnam veteran who served 20+ years in the United States Air Force, retiring as Master Sergeant. He had also worked 19 years with the General Services Administration, Information Security Management Division in Kansas City, Missouri. Mr. Davila was a member of the Coronation of Our Lady Catholic Church in Grandview. He was also a 3rd and 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and an associate member of Mary, Queen of the Universe, Shrine in Orlando, Florida. He received the Bishop’s Award for Significant Contribution to the Life and Work of the Church in the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph and was a Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), Coordinator/Sponsor for 12 years. Special achievements were: Certificate of Appreciation for Significant Support during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm; The Air Force Commendation Medal (First Oak Leaf Cluster) from the Department of the Air Force; The Meritorious Service Medal from the President of the United States authorized by Executive Order, January 16th, 1969; Multiple Special Achievement Awards from GSA’s Information Security Management Division; Multiple Citation Achievement Cash Awards from GSA’s Information Security Management Division. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Samuel and sister Rachel Davila. He is survived by his wife Sally Davila of the home; daughters Ruth, Denise (Ron), and Darlene (Roy); son Gerry (Carole); brothers David (Vera), Moses (Margaret) and Ramiro (Linda); and sister Ruth (Tom). He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; his entire Christian family who walked with him on his journey to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, most especially “daughter #4” Julie Oswald; Twyla Stark; Father Tierney; Monsignor Murphy; and Sisters Clionica, Clare, Doris and Caterina.
