Dan was born in Kansas City, MO on February 17, 1944 to Margaret (Ebel) and Harley Closser. In his early years, he lived in the Northeast area of Kansas City. He graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1961 and Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas in 1968, with Bachelor Degrees in Chemistry and Philosophy. Dan was a member of the Mensa Society.
Dan worked for Cook Paint & Varnish Co as an intern during his college years. He started his career as a Chemist (paint) at Cook Paint. Other work history included, Quality Control, Plant and Operating Engineer and Plant Manager with United States Gypsum and Masonite/International Paper. He also worked for Davis Paint.
As a young man, Dan was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and attained the coveted rank of Eagle Scout. He also was a Warrior in the order of Mic-o-say. He loved reading books on history and (mystery novels) and retained the amazing knowledge of his readings throughout his life. He truly was a lifelong learner, and was a good artist and photographer as well.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents. He leaves behind his former wife and lifelong companion of over 50 years, Mary Closser; son, Daniel Christopher Closser, daughter and son-in law Natalie (Closser) Allen and James Allen; his grandsons James Isaac Allen and Christopher Daniel Closser, beloved friend Jackie Covey, beloved cousin Darlene Brown; as well as many members of his extended family, loved ones, and acquaintances to cherish his memory. Also to his caregivers Anya and Devin.
Dan loved his Kansas City Hospice caregivers Kristie, Kati and Kristin and Renee who were very good to him and the family is very thankful for their service and love. And the care provided by the good nurses and help that took care of Dan.
In lieu of some flowers, the family requests donations to Kansas City Hospice.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 12:00 PM, with visitation starting at 11:00 AM, at the McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Road, Kansas City, MO 64119. Entombment will follow services in Terrace Park Cemetery, Kansas City, MO.
