Dale was born on July 26, 1935 to Hazel Mae Duncan in Gilliam, Missouri. He grew up in Slater, MO where he graduated from Slater High School. Slater always brought a smile to his face and it was obvious it was a place that brought him freedom, comfort, and a sense of home.
Dale was a charming, mild mannered, gentle soul who never met a stranger. He had a magnetic personality, full of knowledge and experiences, and had a passion for pigeons. He was an established member and winning contributor for both the American Racing Pigeon Union, and Raytown Racing Pigeon Club.
Not only was he a loving dad to his daughters, but he was also a supportive and involved Grandpa. He never missed a ball game, soccer match, track meet, football game, or swim meet. As the grandchildren got older, moved away, and started their own families, he was always inquiring, staying up-to-date, and showing his affection. His great grandchildren will always know what a selfless, genuine, and honest man he was.
He is survived by daughters, Susan Kimberly Crockett, and Sara Kristin Pickens; five grandchildren Charles Ashley Davis (Porscha), Racheal Courtney Pickens (Kipling), Chase Jennings Johnson (Stacey), Landon Harvey Pickens (Michelle), and Caroline Berit Crockett (Jack); six great grandchildren Coraline Paisley Davis, Charleigh Paris Davis, Camden Primrose Davis, Elijah Duncan Pickens, Reese Erin Johnson, and William Shields Johnson.
Dale was honored to serve his country as a proud member of the United States Army and will be laid to rest at Floral Hills Cemetery with military honors. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life, which will be held at Dale’s home on October 2, 2023 at 4:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease Research Foundations.
