Christopher Joseph Koppers, 39, beloved son of Dr. Larry and Ann Koppers, passed away May 25, 2015. Chris was born in Kansas City on September 4, 1975. He adored his big brother Billy and watched after his little brother Danny when he came along. Chris’s fiery red hair was the first hint that his personality would be overflowing with vim, vigor, and vitality.
Chris attended Cure of Ars Elementary School, Rockhurst High School and Shawnee Mission East. He went to the University of Kansas where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. His winning smile and kind heart, coupled with lots of mischief, made for a lively ATO house.
Chris moved to Colorado where he remained a devoted Royals, Chiefs, and KU fan. He developed a deep love of skiing, hiking, and golf. In his job at Stevinson’s Toyota, Chris quickly became their top salesman in all seven locations. Everyone there thought the world of Chris. He had the most genuine, sincere, loving and giving spirit.
He had more friends in 39 years than one person could ever hope for in an entire lifetime. He never met a stranger and was the first person to be there in a time of need, whether to have a talk, hang out, or just listen. He was a truly special individual, friend, brother, uncle, and cousin. The world has lost one of the best! Chris has moved on to share his smile with his Savior the Lord Jesus Christ.
Chris was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Larry Koppers, his grandparents, Peg and Joe Helmann, Aloysius and Lucile Koppers, and Dr. William Guifoyle. He is survived by his mother, Ann Koppers, brothers, Billy (Missy) and Danny; nieces, Nikki, Brittany, Kameron, and Melissa. He is also survived by loving aunts, uncles and dedicated cousins.
Visitation will be at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, Missouri from 5:30 pm -7:30 pm on Sunday, May 31st. The Mass of the Resurrection will be held at Cure of Ars Catholic Church on 9401 Mission Road Leawood, Kansas on Monday, June 1st at 11 am. A private family burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Father Maurice VanAckeren Scholarship Fund at Rockhurst University or to Cure of Ars Catholic Church.
