Charlotte Mae (Stillwell), (Wood), (Burt), Holt, put on her little girl shoes and ran off with Jesus. If you met Charlotte, you were friends with her, whether you planned it or not. She asked sincere questions of everyone she crossed paths with and then shared a story or three. Charlotte shared her stories until she ran out of breath on May 25, 2023, after 83 years and a lot of memories.
She loved to travel and did. Family road trips to California, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Canada, and many more with her husband, Bob Holt, meandering around the country in their RV with their small dog. Charlotte was a dreamer and the rare bird who got to live a lot of those dreams. Her sporting life included everything from basketball to snow skiing. Charlotte”s red hair was fair warning to all who encountered her that she was a strong, independent woman fully capable of taking care of herself and everyone in her path. In her career she worked at AAA, Shell Oil Company, Apartment Guide and managed one of the largest apartment complexes in Kansas City. In her 70's and 80's she never slowed, managing several rental properties for herself and her sister, Linda Brown. Full of energy until the end, she did not walk slowly on this Earth.
Charlotte was born in Huntsville, Missouri. Throughout her life, Charlotte lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Corpus Christi, Texas and Kansas City. But the reason she remained in Kansas City, was her “Ward Family”. The 1st Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was her home. Her final stories were filled with a parade of members sharing memories and comforting her. Around her house are names of friends, major and minor acquaintances, with caring notes of what she had learned from talking to them. Her phone still rings with friends who have moved away calling to chat. Charlotte loved, and was loved by her family, her ward family and the family in the world around her.
Crossing the finish line before her were her parents, Everett and Stella Stillwell and her brother, Dewayne Stillwell and her husband, Robert (Bob) Holt. Her sister and confidant, Linda Brown carries on her memory in Sacramento, California. Charlotte has two loving sons: Christopher Wood with his wife, Beverly, of Oklahoma City and Kevin Wood with his wife, Beth Wood, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and wonderful stepson, Mark Holt with wife Michelle. Grandchildren, Rachel Schroath and her husband Garret Schroath; grandson, Noah Wood of Oklahoma City; grandson Jake Wood and his wife Sydney Wood of Idaho Falls, Idaho, granddaughter Allison Wood of Salt Lake City; granddaughter Ava Wood, of Provo, Utah, step-grandson, Mike Holt, and step-granddaughter, Katie Holt; and great-granddaughter, Ella Schroath of Oklahoma City.
A celebration of her memories will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 8144 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131 on Saturday, June 3, 2023, visitation at 9:00 a.m, services at 10:00 a.m. Dedication will take place at 2:00 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Braymer, MO.
