Charline Coleman, 97, passed away August 20, 2017. Char was born and raised on a farm in Lone Jack, MO. Her parents were John and Minnie Shelton. Growing up as a child she enjoyed making ice cream. She often told a story of going to the frozen creek to obtain ice in order to make homemade ice cream. After graduating from Lone Jack High School, she worked briefly for Montgomery Wards and then went on to Sears, Roebuck and Co., where she retired after 36 years. Along with her husband, Claude, they spent every weekend at the Lake of the Ozarks entertaining family and friends, young and old. After retirement, they traveled the countryside in their motor home. After Claude’s passing, she continued traveling with a group of friends and visited such places as Hershey, PA, Mackinaw Island, New Orleans, LA and Mexico. Charline was an avid gardener and a wonderfully talented cook, often canning vegetables from her own garden. She grew tomatoes and gave them away by the hundreds. Her wit and sense of humor were sharp until the end. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Claude Coleman; sisters: Mary Vivian Shelton and Opal Lee Helmig. Survivors include her nephew, Russell Helmig; niece Beverly Helmig Pine; nephew, Gary Coleman and his spouse, Caroline; niece, Jeannine Schwarz and her spouse, Joe; and a host of loving family members and friends.
