Charles was given clearance for his final flight on July 7, 2021, at age 95. He was a resident of Naples, FL and Lee’s Summit, MO.
Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Navy proudly and courageously putting his life on the line while serving his country during World War II stationed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Matanikau CVE101 1943-1946.
When Charles retired early, he and his wife Billie began golfing, flying, traveling, and becoming snowbirds, spending half of each year in Naples Florida. After he lost his beloved wife Billie, he then moved to Naples Florida permanently in 2016.
Charles was an accomplished entrepreneur as he began his homebuilding and developing career in 1950, developing numerous residential communities including Woodson Estates, Bordner Estates, Gordanier Estates and Browning and Chapman Park industrial parks. His daughter, sons and several grandchildren have followed in his footsteps.
He served on numerous organizations, including The Boy Scouts of America helping his sons and grandsons through the Eagle and Life Scout process, Kansas City and Raytown Home Builders Associations and Lee’s Summit Planning and Zoning.
He and Billie became private pilots in 1966, owned several planes, and loved their flying experiences across the nation and Caribbean. He was President of the Missouri Pilots Association for several years.
A special memory for Charles, was when he was able to participate in the Honor Flight of Kansas City on September 11, 2013, visiting the WWII Memorial in Washington DC with his daughter Catherine as his guardian.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents George and Nell Bordner, his wife Billie Bordner, and brother Robert Bordner. Here on earth, he leaves his sister Charlene Tompkins, daughter Catherine Bordner, son Dennis Bordner (Christina), son William Bordner, grandchildren Peter Pine (Krystal Pine), Nicholas Bordner (Stephani), Erica Pine, Angela Bordner, Christopher Bordner (Stephanie) and Jacob Graham (Eryn) along with 7 great grandchildren Keeley, Kennady, Jake, Eden, Lila, Millie, and Wade.
Although your mission here on earth is accomplished Charles, now it is time to forever soar, as your family and friends bid you “CAVU”, (ceiling and visibility unlimited).
