Charlene Diane McGuire was born May 27th, 1938, to Charles William & Inetha Cecilia Maude Thorp in Kansas City, Missouri. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Brother’s Jim and Vince Reese, Sister Mary Lou Reinking, Son’s Michael and Paul McGuire, Grandson Dale McGuire, and Granddaughter Elizabeth Busch. She passed away on February 10th, 2022, at her home in Kansas City, Missouri with her Husband Chester McGuire by her side. In the weeks preceding her passing Charlene was surrounded by love as her family cared for her.
Charlene spent her youth in Kansas City graduating from Hogan Catholic High School, she married the love of her life Chester Guy McGuire on August 10th, 1957, then followed his career in the United States Navy where they were stationed at the Naval Air Station of Kingsville in Kingsville, Texas where her greatest joy started, being a mother. She and Chester had 9 children, Diane Close & Steve of Kansas City, Missouri, Guy McGuire & Laura of Kansas City, Missouri, Martin McGuire & Candy of Eldon, Missouri, Mary McGuire of Kansas City, Missouri, Matthew McGuire & Rita of Liberty, Missouri, Margaret McGuire & Beth of Kansas City, Missouri and Joseph McGuire of Kansas City, Missouri. From these seven children came twenty grandchildren and thirty-six great grandchildren. She is Survived by her Husband, her sister Annie Keen of Warsaw, Missouri, and her Children.
Charlene made it her life’s work fighting for those with special needs after the birth of their son Joseph, volunteering with Special Olympics Missouri and Kansas, organizing ARC Camps for special needs children and inspiring her entire family volunteer, working as a leading member of S.P.R.E.A.D the Special Religious Education Program, working closely with Catholic Charities and acting as The Handicap Advocate, a member on the prayer hotline and Altar and Rosary Society for St. Gabriel Archangel Catholic Church where she and Chester have been members for 53 years.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, February 15, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, 4737 N Cleveland Avenue, Kansas City, Missouri 64117 Where the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow the Mass in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64138.
