Kitty was born May 29, 1934 in Culverton, Georgia to the late James and Inez Nash. She grew up in Macon, GA with four brothers and three sisters. After graduating from Ballard Hudson High School, she completed a year of college at Fort Valley State University. Kitty then moved to Chicago where she met Edwin “Ed” Watson, Jr. who she later married on November, 27, 1954. Ed joined the United States Air Force and together they traveled the world living in Japan, Germany, England, Kansas, and Missouri. They were the proud parents of four children.
Kitty worked a variety of jobs for the Air Force and later worked for the Social Security Administration and the Department of Agriculture. She enjoyed gardening, going to the movies, traveling, and playing the penny slot machines at the casino (where she won a big one!). Kitty especially enjoyed spending time with her grandsons and great grandchildren who she said helped to keep her young. After turning 80, Kitty did some modeling and photo shoots including a Hallmark card, and is the face of a homecare website. For the last year and a half, she lived at Villa Ventura where she made many good friends and especially enjoyed playing bingo, Scrabble, bean bag baseball and working on jigsaw puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and seven siblings (Ira, Sarah, Henry, Estella, Jessie, Terrell, and Jean). She is survived by her daughters Taji (Leonard) Bates and Kim (Duane) Olberding, sons Mark (Valerie) Watson and Edwin (Pam) Watson, as well as six grandsons – Leonard, Nicholas, Larnzell, Christopher, Daniel, and Zachary, and five great grandchildren – Josephine, Larnzell Jr., Gabriella, Joshua, and Christian. Kitty also leaves behind her dear friend Charles Weatherman, many extended family members, and a host of life-long friends.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, December 21 at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri, from 12:00pm to 1:00pm, followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Kitty’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association of Kansas City or the American Cancer Society.
