He was born 12/11/1948 in Springfield, Missouri to Lawrence and Maxine (Spears) Williams. Cary was raised in a loving, extended family with his maternal grandparents (Loren Spears and Carrie (Logan) Spears) on a dairy farm in Cabool, Missouri. There he learned the value of a strong work ethic – rising at 4AM to milk cows before heading off to school.
He attended UMKC for a short time before “winning the lottery” and being drafted to serve in the Vietnam War (Navy). Upon return, Cary attended graduate school where he met is loving wife of 39 years, Gail (Townley) Williams. In 1980, Cary and a group of parents established Nova Center, Inc. – a non-profit agency dedicated to serving children and adults with developmental disabilities – where he has served as CEO since inception. During this time, Cary along with his wife and his dedicated staff have grown the organization from a group of 12 to over 250 exceptional individuals and touched the lives of many more.
Cary was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was a self-less, loving man who dedicated his life to helping others less fortunate. His legacy will live on through Nova Center. He leaves his loving wife, sons Collin (wife Julie) and Mark (wife Michelle) and 3 grandchildren (Josh (15), Ella (5) and Maxwell (2)).
