Carolyn Jean (Cline) Warren, age 78, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on Monday, October 10, 2022. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother of two children, and grandmother (“Mimi”) to two granddaughters.
Carolyn was born in Lyons, Kansas on July 17, 1944. Her parents, Arnold “Toy” and Ina Pearl Cline owned the local IGA grocery store. Carolyn helped often in the store and developed a love for food as an expression of caring for others. She attended Fort Hays State University where she earned her teaching degree and became an elementary school art teacher.
Carolyn moved to Grandview, Missouri, where she was introduced to Ralph Warren, an Electrical Engineer with Honeywell in Kansas City. They married on March 23, 1974. As a couple, they enjoyed travel and sailing races on Lake Jacomo. They moved to Lenexa, Kansas and had two children, Samantha and Nicholas.
She retired from teaching to raise her children, but as a mom, never stopped encouraging her kids to learn. The family moved to Overland Park, Kansas in 1984. They enjoyed family vacations to her hometown, Lyons, to the family cabin in Wisconsin, Boulder City, Nevada and Colorado.
Game night at the Warrens was well-known among their friends. Carolyn loved entertaining and decorating their beautiful home with fun and whimsy. Carolyn also had her “collections” of things – from chairs to baskets. She had many dear friends that she regularly had breakfast or coffee with, and loved to shop with. She had a keen eye for shopping, and was known for her colorful clothes and jewelry. She and Ralph would connect every day over coffee, and were regulars at their local Starbucks.
A breast cancer survivor, Carolyn was dedicated in her support and encouragement of Ralph during his cancer progression, to which he succumbed in March 2013. Carolyn loved being “Mimi” to her two granddaughters, Teagan Leigh, born in 2011 to Samantha and her husband, Ian, and Ila Nicole, born in 2017 to Nicholas and his wife, Rachel.
She was strong-willed, loving, and had a good sense of humor. Many knew that Carolyn had her own way of doing things. She was a generous and loving woman, and she will be missed tremendously.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Arts KC, a local nonprofit that supports art in the community and schools.
