Carolyn Jeannette McClain Elliott, 84, died peacefully on Monday, July 9, 2018 at Westchester Village Senior Living Community, Lenexa, KS. A visitation will be held at the United Methodist Church, Phillipsburg, KS at 10:00 am on Monday, July 30th followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 am. Private family graveside service at Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg, KS.
Carolyn was born to Ronald Dean McClain and Wilma Ola “Pat” Richards McClain in Kensington, KS on September 25, 1933. She attended Stockton High School graduating as
Valedictorian in 1951. She was a student at the University of Kansas and Kansas State University prior to marrying Spencer Elwood Elliott, Jr on April 12, 1953 following his return from Korea. Carolyn worked as a secretary for Dr. Mary Glassen and Huck Boyd while raising a family of five along with Elwood. She returned to school at age 33 and graduated from Fort Hays State College with a Business Education degree. She had a successful career teaching Business, Typing and Office Practice at Phillipsburg High School for 22 yrs before retiring in 1990.
Carolyn had a strong Christian FAITH which she lived daily and shared with her friends and family. She was a 50 year member of the United Methodist Church in Phillipsburg, Ks and following her move to Winfield, a 10+ year member of the Evangelical Free Church. On one of her many travels, a trip to the Holy Land, she reaffirmed her baptism in the Jordan River in the Galilee region of Israel. This was one the highlights of her life. Carolyn also spent many years as a Hospice Volunteer and throughout her life, was an anonymous donor to many in need.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Spencer Elwood Elliott, Jr.; her parents, Ronald and Pat McClain, her brothers, Ronald Dean, Jr. (as an infant) and Richard Eugene (Gene) McClain; a granddaughter, Brianna Seeger; and a grandson, Joshua Elliott. She is survived by her five children, Robin (Dave) Van Allen, Lenexa, KS; David (Vicky) Elliott, Rowlett, TX; Cameron (Carolyn) Elliott, Prairie Village, KS; Michaela (Greg) Pate, Lucas, KS; and Shannon (Ken) Seeger, Coral Springs, FL; 10 grandchildren and 18 grandchildren.
In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Hospice Services, Inc & Palliative Care of Northwest Kansas or the United Methodist Church of Phillipsburg, KS.
