Carl F. Tiffany, age 94, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2020. Carl was born in Emporia, Kansas on November 4, 1925 to Fred L. Tiffany and Della A. (Hoeschele) Tiffany. After graduating high school, Carl was employed by his father at Tiffany’s Garage as an auto body repairman. Then, during World War II, Carl served overseas in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater in the Army Air Force with the 141st Army Airways Communications System Squadron. With a mechanical aptitude, he was trained as a diesel mechanic and achieved the rank of sergeant. Carl led a crew of men maintaining and repairing diesel engines that powered generators for radio tower communication which relayed vital information for the war effort throughout the Pacific. After the war, Carl resumed his work as an auto body repairman until he retired.
In 1950 Carl married Anita R. Howard and had two daughters, Gwen and Carol. Anita was a devoted, caring wife, and the love of his life. Carl was very proud of both his daughters and would tell anyone he would come in contact with all about them.
Carl enjoyed going to the lake, fishing, spending time with friends at the VFW, doing crosswords and pon-TIFF-icating about the news and sports of the day. He was an avid gardener of tomatoes and other vegetables. He also came to enjoy cooking and savored his home cooked dishes. He had a nice singing voice and loved to sing old songs from the 40’s and 50’s. He continued to sing to us until the very end. After receiving his first VCR, Carl found pleasure in recording and watching old movies. He took great pride in taping classic children’s animated movies and cartoons for his sweethearts, Aubrey and Alise.
Carl was preceded in death by his daughter, Gwendolyn M. Whiteman in 1980 and his wife, Anita R. Howard in 1985. He is survived by his daughter, Carol L. Dunn of Lee’s Summit and her husband, Mark; grandson, Jarred M. Whiteman; granddaughter, Tiffany G. Ford and her husband, Jacob; and two great granddaughters, Aubrey and Alise, who were his princesses.
In his twilight, Carl often mentioned that when he was gone not to be sad because he had a full, wonderful life and the greatest family there ever was! As time goes by, he will be remembered with love by his family, always and forever.
