Carl Joseph (Joe) Coleman, 83, of Belton, Missouri, passed away January 21, 2014 in his home. A Funeral Mass will be Friday, January 24, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. Sabina’s Catholic Church, 700 Trevis Ave, Belton, Missouri. There will be a visitation Thursday, January 23rd from 5:00-7:00 pm, where the Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 pm at St. Sabina’s Catholic Church. Burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the March of Dimes, 4400 College Blvd #180, Leawood, KS 66211.
Joe was born March 10, 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri. Joe survived Polio at age 7. He was a student at Delano School for Crippled Children and graduated from Lillis High School. Joe played wheelchair basketball with the Rolling Pioneers. Later in life he also played wheelchair softball and wheelchair bowling of which he continued until he was 83. Joe was married to his wife, Mary, known as Rusty, for 62 years. They raised 7 children.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Erma Coleman; father, Carl Coleman. Survivors include his wife, Mary Coleman; brother, John Coleman; 7 children, Michael, Mark, Paul, Melissa, John, Matthew, and Jeanine; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
