Born Bonnie Jean Robinson on December 6, 1931, to the late Alice Elizabeth (Murray) and Cecil Wilson Robinson, Bonnie lived a life centered around love, creativity, and family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who found joy in time spent with loved ones, crafting, sewing, and cooking. Christmas was her favorite time of year—her beautifully wrapped gifts and her cherished Santa Claus collection were legendary among those who knew her.
Bonnie married William (Bill) Richard Holcomb in 1955, and together they shared more than 50 years of a deeply loving and devoted marriage until Bill’s passing in 2005. The joy of her life was her family. In 2012, she moved to Kansas City to be closer to her son, Robert (Bob), born in September 1958, her daughter-in-law Mary, and her beloved granddaughters, Madi and Elliot. There, she built a close-knit community through her Aqua Aerobics classes at Lifetime Fitness and through her church, Martin City Baptist Church.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Bill, and her brothers Micky, Rodney, James, and Kenneth Robinson. She is survived by her brothers Linnie (Margaret) Robinson and Glendale Robinson; her son Robert (Mary) Holcomb; her granddaughters Elliot (Kenneth) Olson, Madison Holcomb, and Windy (Billy) Crowson; and her great-granddaughter, Briar Dawn Olson. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of family and friends who will miss her warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit.
Bonnie spent her final days surrounded by her loving family and cared for by the most compassionate and skilled medical team and nurses anyone could ask for. Her passing was peaceful, and her presence left a lasting light in the hearts of all who knew her.
A church service will be held at Martin City Baptist Church on June 7th at 10 a.m., followed by a private family interment at Garnett Cemetery. A celebration of Bonnie’s life—with refreshments, beverages, and shared memories—will take place on Friday, June 6th, at The Venue in Leawood (4800 W 135th St Suite 108, Leawood, KS 66224) from 4-7 pm. To honor the bright light Bonnie was to everyone who knew her, guests are encouraged to wear bright colors to the Celebration of Life. All who loved Bonnie and her family are warmly welcome at both the church service and the celebration.
