Mrs. Bettye J. Williams, also lovingly known as “Granny” was born March 2, 1932 to the late Raymond and Lelar May in Jackson, Tennessee. She attended school in Jackson and graduated from Jackson Central Merry High in May, 1950. She accepted Christ at the age of twelve years old at her home church Mt. Pleasant CME Church.
She was united in marriage to Mr. Sidney L. Williams on June 24, 1953 in Jackson, Tennessee. That same year they moved to St. Louis, Mo. To this union, five children were born. In 1959, they relocated to their permanent home in Kansas City, MO. It was there that she found her a church home and joined Jamison Temple CME Church in 1960. She was active in the Inspirational Choir of which she was president many years. She was also an active member in the Missionary Circle.
Mrs. Williams was employed with Jay Wolfe and Cindy Tucci for 34 years. The things close to her heart was God, her family, and NBA Basketball. She had a special calling to the elderly and was always willing to do what she could to make their lives better. She ensured they had transportation, meals, and whatever they needed. She was a loving, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Anyone who knew her, knew her straightforward observation and the love she had to cater to the needs of anybody. Once a person walked in her home, she treated them like family.
Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Lelar May; four brothers, George May, Clemetine May, Emerson May, and Eugene May; one sister Rhoda Barham and one son Kenneth Williams.
She is survived by her four children; Kennard (Nancy) Williams of Independence, MO; Maurice L. (Jammie) Williams of Kansas City, MO; Mrs. Shelia (Jimmie) Pulliam of Blue Springs, MO; Ms. Teresa Williams of Kansas City, MO; one sister; Mrs. Loraine M. Gill; a sister in love; Mrs. Maggie (Willard) Beard; grandchildren Kennard L. Williams (Kelly); Kenneth Williams, Jr.; Micaella (Charles) Weston; Jordon K. Johnson; Kenya N. Williams; Alexis N. Pulliam; Sydney L-R Pulliam; Like a daughter; Ms. Nicole Brown of Atlanta, GA; twelve great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
