Betty Jean Tibbs

Betty J. Tibbs, 86, formerly of Wichita, KS, went home to be with her Lord on October 16, 2015 in Leawood, KS. Betty was born January 16, 1929 in Fowler, KS, the daughter of Frank and Mildred Thoman. She married Gerald Tibbs on June 6, 1953. Following graduation from college, Betty taught school in Lawrence, followed by teaching stints in Wichita, Topeka, then Wichita again, where she eventually retired from teaching kindergarten at Colvin Elementary School. She also received a Master’s degree from Washburn University. She spent her retirement years traveling with Gerald, volunteering at church, helping others, and being a devoted grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her husband Gerald Tibbs, her parents Frank and Mildred of Manhattan, KS; her brothers Robert Thoman of Athens, GA; and Donald Thoman of Pinal, AZ. She is survived by daughters Jana (Eric) Snyder of Wichita and Pamela (Tony Tarro) Tibbs of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren Ian Snyder and Annica (Philip) Anderson.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131. Graveside services will be held 4:00 p.m., Thursday, October 22, 2015 at Walnut Hill Cemetery, six miles north of Silver Lake, KS.
