In 1947, Betty married Jim Swann on December 8th. In 1955 Jim entered pre-med school in Houston & Betty worked successfully as a Hair Stylist. Jim and Betty had numerous adventures and traveled all across the world, including the Holy Lands. Their time together brought 3 children into the world, forever placing their stamp on the Swann/Choate & Lee bloodlines.
For decades they were active members of the LDS doing missionary work. During their time with the church, they converted a vast amount of people. At this time, she met a gifted photographer while teaching him the missionary lessons, who launched her career in successful modeling career to include Billboards, TV Commercials, Magazines and many other Publications.
After a substantial, successful modeling career, Betty began to study art and various methods of painting while attending The Kansas City Art Institute. Her paintings were all very special and unique. Being invited to exhibit her technique of American Landscaping of oils in the Montmartre Art District in Paris, France was one of her greatest accomplishments of life. During that exhibit she was offered thousands for her paintings but was quite adamant that her paintings were never to be sold & only gifted to those that loved her.
In the later parts of the 1980s, she was employed by the LDS Employment Office. After multiple years of working there, she found her faith steadily increasing when passion for her Faith led her to Salt Lake City where she spent another 20 years serving the church. Shortly after moving there, she met and married her Norwegian sweetheart, Carl Olsen on June 30th, 1993. In 2011, Betty and Carl moved back to Kansas City, MO to be closer to her Midwest family.
The remainder of Betty's time was spent in the home of Ashley & Mick Thompson. She instantly attached to her 3 great grandsons. She quickly became the Matriarch, bringing her family together until the very end. Her youngest great grandson, Jonathan, brought her more joy than any material possession.
She was proceeded in death by Father, Ervin F Lee; Mother, Letha Mae Lee; Brother, Bill R Lee;
Husbands, Dr James E Swann and Carl Olsen; Brother, Billy Ray Lee; Nieces, Cindy Lee and Connie Lee; Nephew, Ric Allen Fortner; Son, Jorgen Olsen.
Survivors include: Daughters, Pamela Swann and Elizabeth Von Lintel; Son, James Kirchner;
Brothers, John Lee and Don Lee; Sister, Wilma Lee Brown.
Grandchildren: Anthony Gialde, Ashley Thompson, Michaela Von Lintel, James Von Lintel, Guillaume Swann.
Along with 5 Great Grandchildren
A bit later in life, she gained the following: Son, Gordon Olsen (Kiko); Jorgen Olsen (June);
Daughters, Karen Nakaniwa (Akinori), Janet Hailstone (David) and Delsie Olsen.
22 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren.
A visitation will be from 10 AM - 11 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
and the service will commence from 11:00 AM - 12:00PM, 5609 Norfleet Kansas City, MO 64133. Graveside services will follow at Floral Hills Cemetery, 7000 Blue Ridge Kansas City, MO 64133
In lieu of Flowers, donations may be made to: Crossroads Hospice or the LDS Missionary Fund.
