Betty was born 12/29/1932 in Hickory County, MO, to Loyd and Lona Snow. The family lived between Bolivar, MO, and Kansas City, MO, while Betty was growing up. She was an only child. She graduated high school in Bolivar, MO and relocated to the Kansas City area where she lived the remainder of her life. She was a self-educated bookkeeper and income tax preparer, working primarily in the construction industry and also for a prominent cardiologist in the city.
Betty was married to Warner Mackie in 1951 and had two children, Tamara and Timothy. Betty remarried on August 19, 1977, to Robert Jenkins. They were married 41 years upon Robert’s death in 2018. Betty enjoyed gardening, achieving a Master Gardening certificate, and was an avid reader. She belonged to several organizations and clubs, including the Central Exchange and the Kansas City Garden Club. Betty and Robert enjoyed traveling, the arts, and horse racing.
She is survived by her daughter, Tamara Farmer, Stafford, KS; son Timothy Mackie of Hermosa Beach, CA; step-daughter Patricia Champion of Leawood, KS; step-son Richard Jenkins of Overland Park, KS; grandson Chad Grunder of Shawnee, KS; granddaughter Jennifer Leeper of Pratt, KS; grandson Ryan Mackie, United States Army; step-grandson Aaron Champion of Studio City, CA; step-granddaughter Katherine Mollison of Parkville, MO; five great-grandchildren, Jillian Grunder, Taylor, Brynn, and Colson Leeper, and Liam Mollison.
Betty and Robert had a large circle of friends and she enjoyed entertaining. She was a friend to all, the kind of person who never said no to helping others out. She was always poised and sophisticated. She was meticulous in her person and work and would stay up until midnight balancing the books if she was off by a penny. She had a curious mind and was an avid reader, was an animal lover and owner of several pets through her lifetime.
A Graveside Service will take place on Saturday, June 5th at 12:00pm at Mount Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri.
