Mrs. Chapman was my seventh grade unified studies teacher at Baptiste Junior High School in 1966.  She was fabulous and glamorous and we all adored her.  She was an inspiring teacher and I’m certain her example launched us all into inspiring careers and a lifelong thirst for learning.  

I remember complimenting her on her vivid blue dress, which perfectly set off her vivid blue eyes and warm tan, and she confided to me that it was her “lucky dress” that she always wore on her first day of school.  We were lucky to have her as our inspiring and beloved teacher.


Betty Lou was one of a kind. She always treated me like one of the family. Betty and Bill were the first people outside of immediate family that I told about my engagement. She was always a joy to be around and had a great laugh. God has a great teacher beside him and we all have an angel watching over us. 

She was a wonderful woman and I always enjoyed the times that I was with her.  She will be missed!  Thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

My Betty loved a good garage sale.  The Pickering side made it up at least once a year for the annual neighborhood event.  She always gave my kids $.25 to spend at every place we stopped.   Every purchase was proudly displayed.   She was so much more than an Aunt!   She always said I was the daughter she never had.  I loved her so much.   She was so special.

To Jeff and Jim, and the rest of the Chapman family, we are so very sorry to hear of Betty’s passing. Being a family member from the “other side of the family”, you would think that Betty might say hello when running into each other, but not Betty Chapman. We would run into each other at Price Chopper by her home, from time to time, as we lived pretty close to each other. It was always like we were old friends, and she would call out to me. She always greeted me by name, asked how my wife and kids/grandkids were with the biggest grin on her face and thoughtfulness in her heart. When we would see each other at larger family events, she did just the same, and would speak to you for the longest time as though she were in “my family” instead of Jim’s mom. She always made us feel liked, loved and so very happy that she got to see us because of who she was! We will sure miss her presence at the store and family events. 

We pray that God comforts and keeps all of you, and leaves only the very best of memories of Betty in your hearts for all eternity.
