Bert was raised in Haysi, Virginia. He was the youngest of four siblings; three sisters and one brother. He was preceded in death by his siblings and nephew Craig.
He served in the United States Army from 1955 through 1958. After an honorable discharge, he moved to Grandview, Missouri to be with his brother Bill and his family.
In 1959 he started working for the United States Postal Service assigned to the Grandview station as a letter carrier. That's when he met his future wife Diane Fletcher, they were married May 15, 1960. Their only child Bert Allen Brooks was born September 14, 1962.
Bert managed Southern Suburban Baseball Team, a team he started in 1963. Every time they moved up, Bert moved up with them. They played ball until 1979. They won a number of Championships.
Bert's main job was as a letter carrier, he later transitioned to a career in politics. He was elected City of Grandview Police Judge from 1971 through 1973. Then was elected City of Grandview Councilman from 1973 through 1977. Followed by his election as City of Grandview Mayor from 1977 through 1981.
Bert liked to hunt, fish and golf. His favorite trips were a week fishing in Canada with his brother, followed by two weeks hunting in Missouri, Colorado and Wyoming with his friends. He enjoyed doing that for many years. Bert, worked for Eagle Landing Golf Course in Belton, Missouri for many years and enjoyed playing lots of golf.
Other than his family, Bert loved his nine dogs that he had in 63 years.
Allen and I want to thank the care helpers from Brookdale College Square and the staff at Kansas City Hospice for the care they gave Bert. Their help and kindness, we do so appreciate.
Bert leaves his wife of 63 years Diane Brooks and son Bert Allen Brooks.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his honor may be made to the Grandview Police Department or Grandview Fire Department.
