Bernetta Therese (Phelan) Stack, 88 of Kansas City, Missouri, died on January 22, 2016 at home surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Redemptorist Fathers Catholic Church, 3333 Broadway, Kansas City, Missouri. Burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, January 25, 2016 6-8 p.m. at McGilley Midtown Chapel, 20 W. Linwood Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri, where the rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to the Redemptorist foundation.
Bernetta was born on December 16, 1927 to James E. Phelan and Bernetta (Regan) Phelan. Bernetta attended Redemptorist Grade School and High School, graduating on 1944. In 1949 she married Charles Stack. She was a lifelong parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Redemptorist Catholic Church. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and active in the PTA. She initiated and was the bookkeeper of the federal government lunch program at Redemptorist School for 43 years. In addition to her parents, Bernetta is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Charles, and brother, Joseph Phelan. Bernetta is survived by two daughters, Mary Clare (Pat) Murphy of Kansas City, MO and Kathleen (Dennis) Sessler of Lee’s Summit, MO; six grandchildren, Michael and Kathleen Murphy, Dan, Matt (Andrea), Chris and Alexis Sessler; two great-grandchildren, Piper Murphy and Connor Sessler; nephew, Jim (Lisa) Phelan; two nieces, Julie Harper and Joanna Phelan; great-nieces and nephews, Alyce Phelan, Tyler Phelan, Brooke Phelan and Cael Phelan. The family would like to thank St. Luke’s Home Healthcare nurse Connie.
