Beatrice Marie Kamp, age 95, passed away on July 6, 2020 at Kingswood Senior Living in Kansas City, MO. Bea was born in Anderson, MO on October 14, 1924 to Dewey and Helen M. Cole. As a child she picnicked near the farm creek swimming hole, rode a donkey to school with her sister, Harmony, and played the bass drum in the high school band. Bea was valedictorian for her graduating class.
During World War II Bea completed her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Bea and Harmony were members of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. As a nursing student during the war, her small class of 4 fellow students had clinical blocks in other locals which included Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Uphttps://admin.mem.com/sso/newde/9250932#keepsake/folderon completion of her degree, Bea became a pediatric nurse at St. Luke Hospital in KCMO. These were the days when one RN ran the whole ward for a shift. One summer break she helped her father at home by driving a natural gas truck for income.
Bea met Bill on a blind date at the University, marrying on October 16, 1948 in Branson, MO. Home life centered in Kansas City, MO working as a nurse before joining Bill full time in their business. Kamp’s Flowers began a fulfilling endeavor eventually for the whole family and is completing its 71st year.
Fun times included dancing, fishing, camping, flower gardening, and television sports. Personal love of family led to a lifetime of letter correspondence, holiday pies, cookies after school, and bird watching from the kitchen window. After Bill died, single senior life added exercise and water aerobics, neighborhood walks, church volunteering and bell choir.
Proceeded in death by husband William H. Kamp, Jr. and sister Harmony Cole Pitts, Bea has enjoyed her growing family. William T. Kamp and wife Melva of Lee’s Summit have 2 married sons: Jeffrey Kamp (Alyssa) and Matthew Kamp (Melissa). Martha Kamp Heimann and husband Edward of Lincoln, New Mexico have seven children: Rebecca Heimann Howe (Ben), Cole Heimann (Sarah), Tara Heimann Ross (Levi), Carolyn Heimann Carinder, Sarah Heimann, William Heimann (Anya), and Christian Heimann. Bea is a great grandmother to 6 children with one on the way.
