Barbara was born on June 17, 1937 in St. Joseph, Missouri. She was the daughter of George and Ruth Dorsh. She grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Paseo High School in 1955. She married Gordon Wells in 1956 with whom she had 6 children. She raised all 6 children before starting her own career as an administrative assistant for the US Attorney’s office and later the Department of Agriculture. Barbara then was reunited with her high school sweetheart 40 years after graduation. Bob and Barbara Ganote would marry in 1997 and enjoyed traveling, being around family and attending church. She always loved her gardens and statuary. So much so that her devoted husband Bob wrote this beautiful poem for her that he would like to share:
"Ode to Barbara"
You are like the Rose of Sharon at different shades of blue, purple and white depending on your feelings at the moment. Blue when you feel unloved. Purple when angry, and white when you are happy. You are a resilient flower, strong and steadfast against adversity. Your fragrance is sweet as it lingers when you are near me. At any time you are the most beautiful flower in my garden. I love you in whatever shade of color shines in your eyes as the mood strikes you. I love my Barbie.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Robert Ganote, daughters, Cindy England, Cheri Wells, Kim Rawlings and Pam Barth, sons, Scott Wells and Craig Wells and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 6th at 11:00am at Haitian American Baptist Church, 6820 East Truman Road, Kansas City, MO 64126.
