Barbara Ann Kies, 68, Kansas City, MO passed away in her home, surrounded by family, on January 1, 2016. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO 64131, on Thursday, January 7, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 6, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at McGilley State Line Memorial Chapel.
Born September 27, 1947, in Kansas City, MO to Gilbert and Margaret (Flynn) Freeouf, Barbara was a 1965 graduate of Bishop Hogan High School. Barbara was a loving mother and homemaker who loved to play tennis, bake, sew, and always had at least one room of the house under remodel. After raising her children, Barbara returned to school, earning her Associates Degree and several certifications in Social Services from Longview Community College, where she was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Who’s Who of Community Colleges. Always looking to make a difference in the world, Barbara went on to teach the youth at Hilltop Residential Center and Ozanam. She will be missed by all who were blessed to know her.
Barbara is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, Denny; daughter, Stephanie (Matt) Deatherage; sons, Michael (Paula), and Patrick (Amanda) Kies; grandchildren, Emma, Thomas, Jessica, Natalie, and one more arriving this summer. She is also survived by her sisters, Kathleen Riley, Mary Lynch, Judy Quanty, and numerous nieces and nephews.
